I rescued cats – feral and abused – for several years. I am now down to four that are wonderful for me but unadoptable. That’s the backstory.
As with many ferals there is often struvite crystals. This is a genetic forms of crystals not just stress related though it can be exacerbated by stressors. I studied more about struvite crystals which is a very common issue for cats and often overlooked. So my tiny feral mommy cat and her two boys — that makes three of my remaining four — all have struvite.

OK people I am not making this up. If my cat doesn’t get a can of Mixed Grill every evening at precisely 8:00 pm he will come find me wherever I am and make it known it’s canned cat food time. Often I will be laying on the sofa, sometimes sleeping. First it’s incessant meowing, then he jumps up on my chest or my side and begins tapping me on the head

Forget about putting a pillow over my head or covering myself with a throw, he will not give up. More than once I’ve said “go away and leave me alone” and the next thing I hear is pantry door creak as he opens it, then he’ll climb up in the cupboard and start knocking down cans on to the floor. He eats dry food in the morning and throughout the day, but when 8 PM comes there will be no peace for me unless he gets his Mixed Grill. True story.
